Memory Anchors
A fine art initiative designed to engage people of all ages to discover new ways of expressing feelings through interactive digital sculpture and storytelling.
Katya Solomatina collaborated with Sailortown community on digital sculpting, AI-driven verbal art, photogrammetry, sound recording, and improvisational storytelling to create immersive art pieces.
As a result of collaborative development Memory Anchors presents Augmented Reality Showcase in St Josephs Church on the 13th of April and launches a new mobile Treasure Hunt Quest at Belfast's waterfront. Which will run from mid April until September 2024.
The team of experts working on the project: Elaine McGinn, Bronagh Lawson, Ivan Isakov, Zan Dani and Luke Lucas.
Memory Anchors has received support from the BDes (Hons) Animation course at Ulster University’s School of Art and had Michael Thompson and Jasmine Sheppard volunteer and demonstrate best scanning techniques at the workshops.
Watch out for number plates with QR codes and passcode on them!
Number plates are symbolic and stand for peoples stories that were lost due to the build of the M2 motorway. The vast majority of people in Sailortown were asked to relocate to the other areas, and the neighbourhood lost it's wholeness. The code from each number plate unlocks the memory on the app!
The mobile Treasure Hunt Quest experience activates on your phone once you find and scan the QR code on the first Memory Anchor plate. Following the secret path from the Game of Thrones Stained Glass through the dry docks towards Sailortown, you will scan the plates and collect virtual hidden objects and their stories. These objects were all created and brought together by Sailortown community through creative digital art workshops. The lead artist Katya Solomatina has collaborated with Sailortown and industry professionals to find new engaging ways to celebrate local heritage.
